According to BYD's announcement, over the past 10 years in the Chinese automotive market, the market share of Chinese brands has been rising year by year, reaching 61.9% in the first half of this year. New energy and domestic independent brands have become the mainstream in the Chinese automotive market. However, in the luxury car segment during the same period, the market share of Chinese brands was only 34.7%. With the current new energy vehicle market's monthly penetration rate exceeding 50%, there is great potential for creating new energy luxury models, especially in the rapidly growing segment of large luxury cars.

In 2022, the national sales volume of large luxury cars was about 960,000 units; in 2023, it reached 1.46 million units, achieving a year-on-year increase of 52%, with a nearly 500,000 unit increase in sales volume within a year. The Denza Z9GT and Denza Z9 are set to be key models to impact this market.

The Z9GT integrates BYD's most advanced automotive technologies: e3, God's Eye, DiLink, and Yun Nian Suspension technology, among others. The e3 project, initiated in 2020, has accumulated a development investment of 5 billion yuan by BYD. The entire technology platform consists of three parts: power architecture, control architecture, and intelligence architecture. The Denza Z9GT will be the first BYD model to carry the new e3 technology platform and is also the world's first to achieve independent drive of three motors and independent steering of dual motors at the rear wheels.

Under the unified dual-platform power architecture, with a standard configuration of three motors, the Denza Z9GT has nearly 1000 horsepower, enabling the plug-in hybrid version to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds, with an NEDC oil consumption of only 5.6L; the battery electric platform model can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds, with a CLTC power consumption of only 15.8kWh per 100 km.

In addition, BYD has taken the lead in the industry to launch plug-in hybrid and battery electric CTB (Cell to Body) battery structures. According to the information released at BYD's press conference, the battery electric CTB integrates the battery with the vehicle body system, and the plug-in hybrid blade battery sandwich structure is equivalent to the battery electric battery pack, serving both as an energy body and a structural body, ensuring collision safety. The maximum charging power of the battery for the battery electric version of the Z9GT reaches 270kW, with a charging time from 30% to 80% SoC in 19 minutes; the charging time for the plug-in hybrid version from 30% to 80% SoC can also be achieved in 19 minutes.

The e3 technology platform greatly enhances the flexibility and safety of the large D-class vehicles like Denza Z9GT. The Z9GT achieves the industry's first "compass turn", closely approximating the "on-the-spot turn" operation equipped on the million-dollar luxury model U8, perfectly solving the driving difficulties of a 5-meter vehicle on narrow roads. In addition to unparalleled flexibility, e3 also enhances the safety of dynamic driving: the Z9GT supports intelligent chassis vector control, 140 km/h high-speed tire burst stability control, inward braking stability enhancement, intelligent crab walking, and low-adhesion road stability enhancement, among other dynamic safety features.

In terms of intelligent driving, the Z9GT is equipped with 33 intelligent driving sensors, coordinated by the Xuanji architecture, enabling BYD to achieve true generalized intelligent driving. The Z9GT will be the first to carry the BAS3.0+ superhuman driving assistance system, which will realize high-speed navigation, automatic parking, and AEB automatic emergency braking functions. By the end of this year, it will push nationwide mapless city navigation, valet parking, and high-speed tire burst stability control functions, and is expected to fully update e3 parking and ultimate moose test functions in the first quarter of 2025.

Denza was a joint venture established in 2010 by Mercedes-Benz and BYD, each holding a 50% stake at the time, with the goal of leveraging Mercedes-Benz's luxury car heritage and BYD's three-electric technology to explore the domestic battery electric luxury car market. However, since the launch of Denza's first model of Denza 300 in 2014, by the end of 2020, Denza's cumulative sales were only 14,000 units, with a cumulative loss of 5.2 billion yuan. In 2021, Mercedes-Benz decided to end the Denza project and signed a share transfer agreement with BYD, which currently holds a 90% stake.

In 2022, the BYD-controlled Denza Automobile released the brand's first MPV model, the D9, offering both battery electric and plug-in hybrid power forms, entering the MPV market, which accounts for only 5% of the overall car market. In the first complete month after the D9 was launched, sales reached 3,451 units, with an average transaction price of 4.15 million yuan. In 2023, Denza once rushed into the top three of the new force sales list with the D9 and became the domestic MPV monthly sales champion, replacing the Buick GL8. By the end of 2023, the cumulative delivery volume of the Denza D9 single model reached nearly 120,000 units.

However, the sales of Denza's six/seven-seater SUV N8 and crossover model N7 were not satisfactory. So far this year, by the end of July, Denza Automobile has sold a total of 69,900 new cars. It is reported that Denza Automobile sets the annual sales target in 2024 is 200,000 units. However, halfway through the year, Denza's sales target completion rate is about 34.95%. To achieve the sales target, in addition to the D9, Denza needs to develop new models for sales growth.

It is reported that Denza will release three flagship new cars within the year, and the product series will be expanded to six models. The Z9GT series is one of the three flagship new cars of Denza Automobile, followed by the launch of the third "9" series model. Before that, Denza will rely on the Z9 and D9 to maintain the average transaction price and sales volume, alleviating the pressure of the sales target.

In addition, BYD's million-yuan pure battery electric performance supercar, the U9, has its first customer delivery car coming off the line on August 16th and is about to be delivered.
